Core Discussion Paper 2001/60 Stochastic Games in Economics and Related Fields: an Overview

چکیده
This survey provides an extensive account of research in economics based on the stochastic games paradigm. Its area-by-area coverage is in the form of an overview, and includes applications in resource economics, industrial organization, macroeconomics, market games, experimental and empirical economics. For methodologically defined frameworks, the coverage is somewhat more detailed (to the extent that the material is not covered elsewhere in this volume), and includes the open-loop concept, the linear-quadratic model, myopic equilibrium, games of perfect information, and stochastic games with a continuum of players. This paper was prepared for presentation at the NATO Advanced Summer Institute on stochastic games held at SUNY-Stony-Brook in July 1999. This paper presents research results of the Belgian Program on Interuniversity Poles of Attraction initiated by the Belgian State, Prime Minister’s Office, Science Policy Programming. Core Discussion Paper 2001/59 Stochastic Games in Economics: the Lattice-theoretic Approach
This chapter considers a recent trend in the application of stochastic games to economics characterized by the use of the lattice-theoretic approach to capture the monotonic properties of Markovian equilibria. The topics covered are: (i) a general framework for discounted stochastic games with Liptchitz-continuous and monotone equilibrium strategies and values, (ii) a model of capital accumulat...

متن کاملStochastic Decision Making in Manufacturing Environments
Decision making plays an important role in economics, psychology, philosophy, mathematics, statistics and many other fields. In each field, decision making consists of identifying the values, uncertainties and other issues that define the decision. In any field, the nature of the decisions is affected by environmental characteristics. In this paper, we are considered the production planning pro...
متن کاملAn economic-risk analysis of alternative rotations by stochastic simulation in Fars province
ABSTRACT - Cultivation of legumes in crop rotations results in atmosphere nitrogen fixation. After harvesting, part of this external nitrogen remains in soil and is used by subsequent crops. This implies that producers would gain from lowering the amount of nitrogen fertilizer in their fields. In this study, stochastic simulation is used to generate probability distributions of net present valu...
متن کاملThe core of endo-status games and one-to-one ordinal preference games
We consider status games [Quint, Thomas and Martin Shubik, ‘Games of Status’, technical report, University of Nevada and Yale University (1999)]. These are n-player ordinal preference cooperative games in which the outcomes are orderings of the players within a hierarchy. In particular we study ‘endo-status’ games. Here each coalition S has an exogenously given set P of S allocations of positio...
